Who We Are

Rwetango Tourism Centre is a tourism accommodation located in Nyakahita, Rwetango Sub-county just across River Rwizi on the side of Isingiro District. It overlooks Lake Mburo National Park which is just about 300m away. The Centre is situated in the proximity of Bisheshe camp which accommodates game rangers who always patrol the area and ensure security. It lies approximately 2 km from the road connecting Katengyeto Gate to Bisheshe camp with a main temporary crossing at Rwobushoro.

It is an accommodation with a very relaxing atmosphere, offering a tranquil environment in a beautifully designed camp area and surrounded by a stunning landscape which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. The location of the Centre makes it an ideal destination for nature lovers and those looking for a break from modernization and its comforts. The nature especially at night, with its nocturnal sounds compensates for the luxury of a lodge. All your senses will be involved. The thrill of the rural life, the smell of the early morning coffee and the chill of the morning walks are all breath taking. Falling asleep to the hoot of an owl and the cries of hyenas and waking up to the beautiful songs of different birds are what you will experience.

The Centre is for budget travelers who wish to experience Ankole’s nature, animals and cultures. It is convenient for those wishing to visit Lake Mburo National Park yet staying in a rural community. A stroll of just about 300m leads you to the bank of River Rwizi on the Isingiro side across which you can see and witness the extraordinary wildlife unique to the region including the colobus monkeys and other animals coming to quench their thirst at the river. The river stretch is also a good spot for birding activities with some bird species more concentrated along the river than the rest of the park. Park visits are also possible. Different itenary options are available for visitors.

The road access to Rwetango Tourism Centre begins from Mbarara City via Kakoba. Drive to Nyamabare bridge located near River Rwizi falls. Near here the road intercepts the access to Katengyeto gate. The drive goes through Kyahi Forest Reserve through Rukuuba Masha, through Oruhenda to Omukikoona. Then the drive turns left to Rwetango following the stretch of River Rwizi to Nyakahita village where the Centre is located. Along the way, the countryside is green and the traveler will enjoy the rolling hills, natural vegetation, dotted villages, an open market, grazing Ankole cows, banana plantations and local people going on with their daily lives; all of which make the journey enjoyable.

The Centre is privately owned but with a Memorandum of Understanding, it works with the local community to promote sustainable conservation of wildlife. The Centre aims at bridging community livelihoods and sustainable conservation through tourism.

We offer several services such as accommodation, restaurant, village tours and drives. You will be warmly welcomed by the Banyankore community, most of them pastoralists, who have lived in the area for very many years. Camping activities are matched with cultural experiences but combining tradition and modernity.

We have opened up an office in Kampala where you can arrange your trips anytime. Please contact us or any tour operators to arrange your visit to Rwetango Tourism Centre.
